ADOS Assessment
Clarity and next steps for families navigating the path to diagnosis.

The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) is a structured, play-based assessment used to evaluate social communication, interaction, and patterns of behavior associated with autism. It is widely recognized as one of the most reliable tools used in the diagnostic process.
During the assessment, a BCBA engages the child in activities designed to observe communication, social responses, and interaction through guided play. BCBAs conduct the ADOS but are not permitted to make a medical diagnosis. The purpose of the assessment is to gather detailed observational information that can support a pediatrician or other qualified medical provider in the diagnostic process.
After the assessment, results are compiled into a report and shared with the child’s pediatrician or appropriate provider for review and diagnostic confirmation. Once a diagnosis is finalized, families may move forward with requesting insurance authorization for a full ABA assessment.
As part of our commitment to supporting families through the diagnostic process, WAVE Family Services offers the ADOS assessment at no cost for families who move forward with ABA services through our organization. If a family chooses to complete the ADOS with us but decides not to begin services with WAVE, a fee for the assessment will apply. This fee covers the administration of the assessment, scoring, and preparation of the written report.
Families receive clear feedback so they understand what was observed and the next steps.
